Welcome to Dreams, Schemes, Time Machines! I’m Yzzy :) I invite you to read the About section of the newsletter, mostly because I did the heavy lifting there, but come back here! Okay, hi again! I’m happy to have you! Wait, you didn’t read it? Ugh, fine.
I’m Yzzy, recent addition to the 3rd decade, soon to be permanent Los Angeles leaver. I just quit my job making television via legal and am now trying to find a new path. I love writing, traveling, the color pink, pop music, Inception and Lightning McQueen. Oh, this is different from my About? So, you did read it! You’re the best!!!
Maybe you’re here because I posted the link online. Or you found it on your own (wishful thinking). But mostly likely, because I asked you to be here! As I continue to shake up my life, this will be the easiest way to keep up to date with me. Please be patient as I try to figure out how Substack works, ha!
I think this is the part where I should convince you to subscribe to this newsletter. Unfortunately, I’m far from persuasive. I could never be a full time influencer; the thought of selling… anything really… is unappealing. If you get any links from me, it will only be things I fully support wholeheartedly. I don’t see myself monetizing this Substack anytime soon, but if I did, I promise to give a good reason. If you subscribe, you get a nice weekly departure from your reality in the form of words, photos and at least one song. Doesn’t that sound fun?!
I’ve been called a chameleon in most aspects, but who I am when I write and who I am really are two different beings so let’s get them out of the way.
This Yzzy that you’re reading right now is most like my IRL self. The one you’d meet at the bar. Really chatty, casual, California accent. Not that I claim it, but I get clocked as Southern Californian immediately when I’m abroad so I believe it. This is the person I am when I write things like travel guides or recommendation lists. Siri, play 1-800-hot-n-fun!
And then there’s the Yzzy that thinks a tad too loudly. Connecting the meaning of life, and all that jazz. You’ll see her frequently, as that’s the style I prefer to write in. She’s not a cry for help, I promise. She just feels a lot of things, all the time. You can expect her to give you a personal essay or a short story, usually in creative nonfiction. She’ll try other genres at some point, in good time!
So, what is this newsletter to me? It’s a continuation of “Freshman Focus,” my weekly column in the 2012-2013 University Times. A redemption for all the failed blogs and writing Instagrams that I’ve had since then, and believe me, I’ve had so many. Most plainly, a task for my unemployed self to look forward to and could possibly bring me purpose. And honestly, something I just really want to do.
I’m from the part of the internet where you’d include a GPOY in an intro, so here!
